June Reunification Month
Reunification is a cornerstone of the child welfare system, supporting the well-being of children and youth by prioritizing safe and loving environments. Strengthening families through prevention, education, support services, and community collaboration is critical to ensuring children grow up with stability and care. In Minnesota, 56% of children exiting foster care in 2022 were reunited with their families.
Celebrating Reunification Month acknowledges the courage, perseverance, and dedication of parents who have taken essential steps to reunite with their children; along with the commitment of Minnesota’s child welfare professionals, parent mentors, peer-to-peer supports, legal advocates, community providers, school staff, and cultural and faith-based communities who work tirelessly to reunite families. Keeping children connected to their communities, traditions, and loved ones reinforces our knowing that strong family bonds lead to healthier futures.
